Meteorite soars over Peru - 26th Aug 2011



The amateur footage shows the glowing ball of rock soaring across the horizon near the Andes mountains in southern Peru.

As it fell from space local officials were unable to determine where the object may have landed after the meteorite was spotted last week.

Meteorites are fragments of rock and metal that fall to earth from space after breaking away from a larger extra-terresrial body.

They can measure anything from a fraction of a millimetre to the size of a football pitch and bigger. Source
