Jesus Lara, 8, who saved 21-month-old baby from bottom of swimming pool is hailed a hero - 12th Aug 2011

A boy aged just eight, who saved a 21-month-old baby from drowning in a swimming pool, has been hailed as a hero and decorated for his quick-thinking.

Life-saver Jesus Lara, who had only started to learn to swim two months previous, dived down into the pool at Estancia Apartments in Plano, Missouri, to rescue the toddler.

He saw something at the bottom of the water and, rapidly putting his goggles on, plunged the depths and saved the baby's life last Friday.

'I grabbed my goggles, I looked at him and it turned out to be a 21-month old baby at the bottom of the pool,' Jesus told WFAA.

The young boy dived down and recovered the baby, who is believed to have slipped into the water, and brought it to the side of the pool, where his father, Henry, performed CPR. Read More
