Officials at Eppley Airfield said they've shut down the airport as crews work to determine the status of planes and equipment following a storm that brought large hail through parts of the Omaha area.As of 8:10 p.m.
Thursday, crews were still checking the runways to ensure that they were clear of debris and safe for aircraft.A storm during the 5 o'clock hour, which dumped golf ball to baseball sized hail over parts of the metro, forced the closure of the airport until about 7 p.m.
A second storm that swept through around 7:20 p.m. had officials close the runways yet again.Eppley leaders said several planes received damage in the earlier storm, which included golf ball to baseball sized hail.
