Polish town hit by floods last year again at risk - 27th July 2011

Heavy rains in Poland have caused flooding in parts of Sandomierz, a town in the country's south that was badly hit by massive floods last year.

Firefighters are working Wednesday to pump water out of basements and flooded yards after a night of rain.

Streets in some Warsaw suburbs were also flooded.

Weeks of torrential rains in 2010 caused two waves of massive flooding in Poland and neighboring countries that destroyed dikes and caused widespread damage.

The flooding in Sandomierz on Wednesday, while on a much smaller scale, occurred in areas where people are still rebuilding after last year's damage.

More rain is expected across Poland in the next days. Source
