Horrified owners and their children 'watch as gunman shoots dead two ponies on their farm in dispute over money' - 4th July 2011

Two ponies were shot dead by a gunman in what is thought to be a dispute over money.

The ponies’ horrified owners, along with their children, saw the animals being killed in a field next to their £525,000 farmhouse.

Police sources said the weapon used was a type of shotgun. A 52-year-old man was arrested.

The shooting has left members of the local equestrian community stunned.

Police were called to Monksdale House, near Tideswell, Derbyshire, after reports that the animals had been shot just before 4.30pm on Saturday.

It is not yet clear what weapon was used, but police sources said it was a type of shotgun.

The man in custody, who was not the owner of the ponies, was held at a police station overnight and was questioned by officers yesterday.

The suspect is from the Buxton area and was believed to be known to the owner of the ponies. Read More
