Flashfloods hit three villages in Capiz, Philippines - 25th July 2011

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Capiz is monitoring the situation in flashflood-stricken barangays (villages) in Pres. Roxas town and neighboring municipalities due to heavy downpour spawned by the low pressure area approaching Eastern Samar.

PDRRMC action officer Espiridion Pelaez confirmed that some 100 families living in three barangays in Pres. Roxas, Capiz have already been affected by the flashflood brought about by torrential rains since Saturday.

The PDRRMC in Capiz reported that scores of passengers were stranded while vehicular traffic and motorists have been stalled for several hours as waist-deep flood waters submerged the national highway in the municipality.

A motorcycle was nearly washed away by the strong water current after the driver pushed his way crossing the highway in the midst of flashflood.

The PDRRMC action officer said that apart from the three hardest hit barangays, the water level in barangays Hanglid, Pantalan and Carmencita also rose as flood waters from the nearby river swelled.

The PDRRMC said there were no casualties in the recent flashflood that hit barangays in Pres. Roxas, Capiz. Source
