Christian Choate FAILED by his Parents, Society and the alleged 13 People that KNEW he was being abused but did NOTHING

Up to 13 people might have known of the abuse endured by a boy before his death but said nothing to authorities.

Only one person claims to have taken her concerns about Christian Choate, of Gary, Indiana, to the authorities, according to the state's Department of Child Services records.

Investigators say the boy was beaten for several years and kept in a cage for as long as a year before he died at the age of 13 in early 2009.

The Lake County Coroner's Office determined he died of blunt force trauma injuries and a skull fracture.

Christian's father and stepmother, Riley Choate and Kimberly Kubina, face murder and other charges.

Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges in Lake Criminal Court and are being held without bond.

Former neighbour Lori Wingard said she knew something was wrong in the Choate home.

She said she called Department of Child Services twice to report possible child abuse and neglect.

DCS records indicate the agency received and investigated both allegations.

Mrs Wingard said she remembers watching a DCS staffer stop by the home in 2008, the Chicago Tribune reports.

'She never even stepped foot in the house,' Mrs Wingard said.

'Kim came out of the house and stood there at the sidewalk and talked to the lady, and I just remember thinking, "Go inside".' Read More
