Huge fire swallows 750 hectares of pinewoods in Sibenik-Knin County, Croatia - 27th June 2011

Some 750 hectares of pinewoods have burned down in the largest fire ever to devastate the area of Grebastica (Sibenik-Knin County).

The fire was caused by the negligence of a 56-year-old Zagreb resident who was doing some locksmith work in front of his holiday home. A spark started the flames that soon spread across an area of about seven square kilometres.

Three Canadair vessels, two air tractors and 80 firemen helped put out the fire.

Charges will be raised against the culprit, daily Jutarnji List writes. Source
