1,200 people stranded at the Kamikochi highland resort of Nagano by mudslides, Japan - 24th June 2011

About 1,200 people including tourists and hotel employees stayed the night isolated in the Kamikochi highland resort of Nagano Prefecture in central Japan after massive mudslides shut off the only route to the area Thursday, prefectural officials said Friday.

Workers from the prefecture’s local office began a field inspection Friday morning to pave the way for removing mud which blocked two roads in the city of Matsumoto around 1 p.m. Thursday and has been left untouched due to risks of a second disaster, the officials said. Source
