GENEVA — The Swiss government says it has extended an asset freeze for senior Syrian officials to include the country's President Bashar Assad. The Swiss Cabinet says banks must now declare any assets belonging to Assad that are in Switzerland.
The government said Wednesday that Assad is also banned from travelling to or through Switzerland.
The decision follows similar sanctions announced last week against 13 senior Syrian officials that didn't affect the president.
The revised Swiss sanctions list now comprises 23 people.
They were taken in response to Syria's brutal crackdown of anti-government protesters in recent weeks. Source
