James Allen, QC A High Court Judge is convicted of battering wife... after their cover-up story fails to convince court she beat HERSELF up - 27th May

A High Court judge’s reputation and career were in ruins last night after he was found guilty of battering his wife in a fit of temper over his missed dinner.

With the verdict James Allen, QC, was branded a liar and a wife-beater.

Allen, 61, and his wife Melanie – a barrister who works as a coroner – both claimed she was responsible for her own injuries.

She also said she had self-harmed in the past.

But District Judge Daphne Wickham said she did not believe the couple's account and found the judge guilty of common assault.

Mrs Allen had described how she punched herself in the head after becoming totally frustrated at her husband wanting to leave the house over a 'ridiculous' argument.

An eight-year-old child, who was in the house at the time, made a 999 call and told the operator Allen was ‘trying to kill’ Mrs Allen, – a barrister who works as a Deputy Coroner.

A recording of the call was played in court and the couple can be heard arguing in the background.

Mrs Allen: ‘Look at me, look at what you have done to me you stupid man.’

Allen: ‘I haven’t done anything.’

Mrs Allen: ‘Yes you have, you did all of that to me.’

Allen: ‘I have not done that.’

Mrs Allen: ‘You have done all of this to me you stupid idiot.’

Allen: ‘Tell the police all the lies you want.’ Read More
