Alan Cooper, 31, in court accused of stabbing his 14-year-old nephew, Jordan Cooper to death - 18th May 2011

The uncle of a 14-year-old boy who was stabbed to death appeared in court today accused of his murder.

Jordan Cooper was found in a house in Newriggs in the Fatfield area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, in the early hours of March 1.

His uncle, Alan Cooper, 31, of no fixed address, did not enter a plea to the charge of murder at Newcastle Crown Court and the case was adjourned until July 8.

Jordan was a pupil at Biddick School Sports College where head Richard Wilkinson said: 'He was a real character with a heart of gold.'

Speaking at the time of the incident, one neighbour said: '‘It’s awful when you have seen him as a little lad kicking a ball around in the street.'

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: ‘My heart goes out to the family, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.'

Nicola Winter, 36, said: ‘When we first moved into the street about 10 years ago, Jordan was just a little boy.

‘I’ve got a son about the same age as him and they used to play together.

‘There’s never any trouble round here which makes it all the more shocking. We can’t believe that it’s happened.’ Source
